In a city where vintage never went out of style, you can expect excellent thrift stores. The biggest and best is AmVets (2426 Elvis Presley Blvd., 901/775-5018). You can also try the Junior League of Memphis Thrift Store (3586 Summer Ave., 901/327-4777).
The most colorful shopping experience in Memphis is found at The Memphis Flea Market—The Big One (955 Maxwell Early Blvd., 901/276-3532), which takes place on the third weekend of each month at the Mid-South Fairgrounds. Between 800 and 1,000 vendors turn up each month with housewares, clothing, computers, jewelry, antiques, yard art, and so much more. Between 20,000 and 25,000 people come to shop. Admission is free, but you must pay to park.
