Any of the half-dozen gift shops along Beale Street sell gifts and souvenirs of the city. Memphis Music (149 Beale St., 901/526-5047) has a good selection of CDs and DVDs for music fans. For a unique gift or something practical for yourself, A. Schwab (163 Beale St., 901/523-9782) is your best choice, and lots of fun to boot.
Another good place for gift shopping is the Center for Southern Folklore (119 S. Main St., 901/525-3655), which has books, art, and music focusing on the region. All of the city’s museums have good gift shops, including the National Civil Rights Museum, Stax Museum of American Soul Music, and Sun Studio, where everything is emblazoned with the distinctive yellow Sun label.
If you have a car, head out to Shangri-La Records (1916 Madison Ave., 901/274-1916), the city’s best record store, which specializes in Memphis music.
