Accommodations and Food

For its not inconsiderable size, Sumter has a dearth of quality accommodations and food. Try the Hampton Inn Sumter (1370 Broad St., 803/469-2222, www.hamptoninn.com, $99).

To cool off with a cone or other treat, try the favorite downtown institution Dairy Cream (267 Broad St., 803/775-1908, Mon.–Thurs. 10:30 a.m.–10 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 10:30 a.m.–10:30 p.m., Sun. noon–10:30 p.m.).

Another longtime favorite is the nostalgia-tinged Pizza Lane (460 Broad St., 803/773-4351, www.pizzalane.com), known far and wide for its pizza buffet.
