There’s an art house on Hilton Head, the charming little Coligny Theatre (843/686-3500, www.colignytheatre.com) in the Coligny Plaza shopping center before you get to Sea Pines. For years this was the only movie theatre for miles around, but it reincarnated as a primarily indie film venue in 2002. Look for the entertaining murals by local artist Ralph Sutton. Daily showtimes are 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. (no 7 p.m. show on Mondays) and Monday, Tuesday, and Friday at 11:30 a.m.
The main multiplex on Hilton Head is Northridge Cinema 10 (Hwy. 278 and Mathews Dr., 843/342-3800, www.southeastcinemas.com) in the Northridge Plaza shopping center. Off the island is the way-cool new Sea Turtle Cinemas (106 Buckwalter Pkwy., 843/706-2888, www.seaturtlecinemas.com) in the Berkeley Place shopping center. To get there take the William Hilton Parkway/U.S. 278 west off Hilton Head about 10 miles. Turn left at Buckwalter Parkway. Sea Turtle Cinemas is a half-mile farther on the right.
