SUBWAY: Children’s Grand Park (Line 7)

As the name suggests, this park bursts with attractions that will appeal to the very young—and their harried parents. In addition to an abundance of shaded green space and paths, ponds, and sports fields that are perfect for tearing around or exploring, it’s got diversions like a musical fountain, outdoor theater, and an amusement park with bumper cars, a “ghost castle” and a surprisingly thrill-inducing roller coaster.

The highlight of the park for many kids is the small zoo (open daily 10 a.m.-6 p.m.), which not only displays exotic animals like tigers, polar bears, and meerkats, but also offers pony and camel rides and stages shows featuring clever parrots and chimpanzees.

The park naturally has an abundance of playgrounds, including a “water playground” with fountains and sprinklers that’s a fine place to cool off in the summer.
