Maps and Tourist Information
The website of the New Mexico Tourism Board (800/733-6396, ext. 0643, www.newmexico.org) is packed with background information and listings of special events. The organization also publishes the monthly New Mexico magazine (www.nmmagazine.com), which covers both mainstream attractions and more obscure corners of the state. If you plan to do a lot of hiking, order detailed topographical maps from the National Forest Service office in New Mexico (505/842-3292) or from the Bureau of Land Management’s Public Lands Information Center (www.publiclands.org). Santa Fe’s Travel Bug bookstore also stocks an excellent selection of maps; see the Santa Fe chapter for details.
