Albuquerque doesn’t have Santa Fe’s exotic treasure troves and tony galleries, but it doesn’t have the high prices either.
Old Town and the environs are where you can pick up traditional American Indian jewelry and pottery for very reasonable prices, while Nob Hill is the commercial center of Albuquerque’s counterculture, with body-piercing studios adjacent to comic book shops next to herbal apothecaries.
There are a number of farmers markets throughout the city; one of the largest is downtown at Robinson Park on Central Avenue at 8th Street (7–11 a.m. Sat. June–Oct.), and there’s another good one in Los Ranchos (6718 Rio Grande Blvd. NW, 7–11 a.m. Sat. May–Oct., 10 a.m.–noon every second Sat. Nov.–Apr.). For more info, see www.farmersmarketsnm.org.
