Platanitos

Seventeen miles (27 km) along the coastal highway north of Las Varas, orchards and fields give way to a tropical forest at Punta Platanitos (Little Bananas), where a dirt road leads down to a cove lined with the pangas and seafood palapas of the Platanitos village and fishing cooperative.
Local folks, drawn by the yellow sand, gentle blue waves, and super-fresh seafood, have for years flocked here for Sunday outings. You can do likewise, and, if you bring your own equipment, you can also enjoy sailboarding, kayaking to nearby hidden coves, snorkeling, and fishing from headland rocks or by boat (which, most days, you can launch from the beach).
Tent or RV camping appears promising (ask if it’s okay: “¿Es bueno acampar acá?”) in the beachside shade.
