The Road to San Blas

The lush 60-mile (100-km) stretch between Rincón de Guayabitos and San Blas is a Pacific Eden of flowery tropical forests and pearly, palm-shaded beaches largely unknown to the outside world.
Highway 200 and the new coastal bypass highway that connects at Las Varas lead travelers past leafy tropical banana and mango orchards, mangrove-edged lagoons, vine-strewn jungle, and a string of little havens—Playa El Naranjo, Chacala and Mar de Jade, Playa las Tortugas, Platanitos, Casa Mañana, and Las Islitas—that add sparkle to an already inviting coastline.
