Veteran surfer/hotelier Mario Rubio rents beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, snorkel gear, surfboards, and kayaks and offers surfing lessons, right on the main beach. He also arranges jungle tours, horseback rides, guided hikes, and hotel-surfing packages. Contact him at his Duende Surf Dawgs beach rental stall.

Surfboard rentals and surfing lessons are also the main business of very professional Luna Azul (tel. 329/291-2009) surf shop, on the beach at the foot of Calle Marlin, by Pedro’s restaurant.

For fishing, surfing, and snorkeling excursions, contact local captain Fidel Ponce Cruz and his wife, Leticia (tel. 329/291-3563, www.sayulitalife.com/business/fidel.htm). Sayulita is Fidel’s hometown, so he knows the best local spots.

Local Rancho Manuel (tel. 322/132-7683) offers horseback tours along shady paths through the Sayulita tropical forest. Get tickets at the Restaurant Costeóo on the beach, or at the ranch itself, about four blocks east up Calle Gaviotas, past the town plaza and the church.

Furthermore, Greg Adams, manager of Villa Buena Salud (tel. 329/291-3029), arranges local day tours: to waterfalls, a hot spring, Alta Vista sacred site, La Tovara spring in San Blas, Mexcaltitán, and much more.
