Aquatic sports concentrate around the south end of Guayabitos beach, where launches ply the waters, offering banana (towed-tube) rides and snorkeling at offshore Isla Islote. Rent a sportfishing launch along the beach. If you want to launch your own boat, ask at the Fisherman’s Paradise Trailer Park if you can use their ramp for a fee.
Tours and Guides
A few local guides lead tours into the lush, wildlife-rich Guayabitos hinterland. Most accessible is Indalesio Muñoz, who leads horseback nature trail rides directly from his corral on the south end of Avenida del Sol Nuevo, across from the Hotel Bugambilias. Tariff is about $20 per person for a two-hour ride.
Highly recommended English-speaking guide Esteban Valdivia (home tel. 327/274-0805, Restaurant Piña Colada tel. 327/274-1211) offers more extensive tours to unusual, untouristed local sites. His itinerary can include such intriguing destinations as hidden Las Miñitas bay and beach near Lo de Marcos, Jamurca hot mineral pools, the Alta Vista Archaeological Sacred Site near Las Varas, the jungle river-boat tour to La Tovara spring in San Blas, and the sylvan volcanic Laguna Santa María, in the Sierra southeast of Tepic.
