Several Guayabitos cafés and restaurants offer good food and service during the busy winter, spring, and July–August seasons. Some, however, either close or restrict their hours during the midsummer and September–November low seasons.

By location, moving from the Guayabitos south end, first find tidy, budget Abel’s Restaurant palapa (south end of Av. del Sol Nuevo, behind Bungalows del Delfín, 7 a.m.–9 p.m. daily). Start off your day right with a home-cooked American-style breakfast ($2–3), such as French toast, pancakes, or eggs any style. Return for lunch or dinner ($3–7), with one of Abel’s hearty burrita or azteca soups, followed by a tasty meat, fish, or chicken plate.

For supper, you can’t enjoy a tastier option than the family-run Taquería Anahi (middle of Av. del Sol Nuevo, east side, corner of Tabachines, early morning–10 p.m. daily year-round, $1–3). Here, dedicated cooks put out hearty tacos, enchiladas, spicy pozole (shredded pork roast and hominy vegetable stew), and much more.

Right across the street, don’t miss George and Gary’s Coffee House (tel. 327/274-0400, 7 a.m.–9 p.m. daily), for the best morning coffee in town. Later, drop by for a cool-down afternoon treat, such as George’s mocha frappe. Master of the show is personable, knowledgeable former professor of veterinary medicine and civic leader Jorge Castuera. If there’s something you want to know about Guayabitos, Jorge is the person to ask.

A few doors north, the clean, local-style Restaurant Las Alejandras (tel. 327/274-0488, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. daily in season, $3–7) offers good breakfasts and a general Mexican-style menu.

From Avenida del Sol Nuevo, walk a block toward the beach, to one of Guayabitos’s best, the moderately priced Campanario (Retorno Tabachines 6 at Calle Tabachines, tel. 327/274-0357, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. daily high season, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily low, $5–12), in front of the Hotel Posada la Misión. The menu, a longtime favorite of the North American RV colony, features bountiful fresh seafood, meat, and Mexican plates; credit cards are accepted. (For a variation on a similar comfort-food theme, try equally popular Restaurant La Piña Loca across the street.)

A good place to start your day is in a comfortable booth at coffee shop-style, air-conditioned Restaurant Tulipanes (Av. del Sol Nuevo, south corner of Jacarandas, tel. 327/274-0575, 8 a.m.–10 p.m. daily). Pick from a long list of hearty breakfast combos ($4–5), including eggs, bacon, hash browns, hotcakes, and French toast. Return at lunch and dinner ($3–7) for guacamole ($3), soups and salads ($3), and pasta, chicken, and fish.

Similar good home-style food and service is available farther north at Restaurant Tonita (near corner of Andando Colorines, 7:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m. Mon.–Fri. in season). Another highly recommended north-end restaurant is the Villas Stefany restaurant (Retorno Jacarandas 12, tel. 327/274-0537 or 327/274-0963, 8 a.m.–10 p.m. daily). Choose from breakfasts ($3–5), salads and sandwiches ($3–6), and many professionally prepared and presented pasta, meat, and seafood entrées ($6–12).

Also highly recommended is the Restaurant Piña Colada (Highway 200 lateral road, end of Calle Lirio, east of Av. del Sol Nuevo, tel. 327/274-1211 or 327/274-1172) of friendly local guide Estaban Valdivia.

Finally, be sure not to miss Guayabitos’s hands-down best restaurant, the Bavarian Garden (on Hwy.200, at the south-end signal and entrance to town, tel. 327/274-2136, 5 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Sun. with sumptuous morning brunch, Nov.–Easter). Here, you and probably at least a dozen winter-season (reservations recommended) diners will enjoy a feast, with entrées such as kassler ripchen (smoked pork chops, $10) or savory Hungarian Goulash (substitute German potato pancakes for rice, $9), topped off with home-made apfel strudel ($3) and rich espresso coffee. Wunderbar! Note: May–October low-season hours are 5 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.–Sat. (except closed Thurs.); 8 a.m.–2 p.m. Sun. for brunch.

Also on Highway 200, a quarter mile south of Bavarian Garden at the Los Ayala crossing, satisfy your need for good Italian food at highly recommended new Restaurant Ricardo. Get your fill, selecting from a menu that includes plenty of good salads ($5), pastas ($6–9), pizza ($5–10), and lasagna ($8); open noon–9 p.m. daily.
