• A broad, well-organized commercial site that covers, among others, the Mexican Pacific destinations of Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Acapulco, Huatulco, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, and Manzanillo (including current weather reports).

• The site of the excellent magazine Mexico Desconocido (“Undiscovered Mexico”), which mostly features stories of unusual and off-the-beaten-track destinations, many in the Puerto Vallarta region. Accesses a large library of past articles that are not unlike a Mexican version of National Geographic Traveler. Click the small “English” button at the top to translate. Excellent, hard-to-find information, with good English translation.

• Life project of Latin America’s dean of ecotourism, Ron Mader, who furnishes a comprehensive clearinghouse of everything ecologically correct, from rescuing turtle eggs in Jalisco to preserving cloud forests in Peru. Contains dozens of subheadings competently linked for maximum speed. For example, check out the Mexico travel directory for ecojourneys, maps, information networks, parks, regional guides, and a mountain more.

A potentially useful site for picking a vacation rental house, condo, or villa, with information and reservations links to individual owners. Prices vary from moderate to luxurious. Coverage extends to a number of regional towns, including Puerto Vallarta and the neighboring coast (Bucerías, Sayulita, San Francisco).
