Among the most economical are the top-floor studio apartments at the Hotel Villa del Mar (Fco. I. Madero 440, tel. 322/222-0785, h_villadelmar [at] hotmail [dot] com), a block south of the Río Cuale and four blocks uphill from Avenida Insurgentes. The several apartments ($40/day and $400/month low season, $45/day and $450/month high), which cluster around a sunny top-floor patio, are clean and simply but thoughtfully furnished in attractive rustic brick, dark wood, and tile. A living area, with furnished kitchenette in one corner, leads to an airy city- and hill-view private balcony. A comfortable double bed occupies an adjacent alcove. In these studios four stories (no elevator) above an already quiet street, guests are likely to enjoy peace and tranquility. Get your winter reservations in early.
