Getting to San Juan

Aeropuerto Internacional Luis Muñoz Marín (SJU, Isla Verde, 787/791-4670 or 787/791- 3840, fax 787/253-3185 or 787/791-4834) is nine miles east of San Juan. It is a full-service airport with three terminals. There are a bank, restaurants, bars, and shops on the second floor alongside the departure gates. A tourist-information office (787/791-1014) is in Terminal C, and a ground-service desk is on the first level by the baggage claim.

For transportation into the city from the airport, there are several car-rental agencies on the first level, including Wheelchair Getaway Rent A Car (787/726-4023), which provides vehicles for drivers with disabilities. The first level is also where you can catch a taxi or bus into town. From the airport, take Baldorioty de Castro Avenue west toward Isla Verde, Ocean Park, and Condado and into Old San Juan.

The airport also is the site of the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport Hotel (787/791-1700), which can be found in Terminal D on the second level.

Airline ticket prices fluctuate throughout the year, but the cheapest rates can usually be secured during the off-season, May–September, which is the rainy season. Note that late summer and early fall are also hurricane season.
