There are two casinos in Río Grande. Gran Melia Puerto Rico (1000 Coco Beach Blvd., Carr. 3 at Carr. 955, 787/809-1770, www.gran-melia-puerto-rico.com, 5 p.m.–2 a.m.) has a small casino with 130 slot machines, blackjack, progressive blackjack, roulette, craps, poker, and Texas hold ’em.
Río Mar Beach Resort (Carr. 968, km 1.4, 787/888-6000, www.wyndhamriomar.com, Sun.–Thurs. 10 p.m.–2 a.m., Fri.–Sat. 10 a.m.–4 a.m.) is even smaller space-wise, but it has 190 slots, blackjack, roulette, craps, Caribbean poker, Texas hold ’em, and three-card poker.
Hipódromo Camarero (Carr. 3, km 15.3, Canóvanas, 787/876-2450, www.hipodromocamarero.com, Mon., Wed., and Fri.–Sun.; first race begins 2:45 p.m. except Sun., when it begins at 2:15 p.m.; last race 6 p.m.; admission free) is technically in the municipality of Canóvanas, just east of Río Grande. Watch the races with food and beverage service from the grandstand, the clubhouse, or the Terrace Room restaurant. You can also watch the action on live monitors in the Winners Sports Bar.
