If you’re planning a creekside picnic, pop into Garland’s Indian Garden (3951 N. Hwy. 89A, 928/282-7702). The small deli and market prepares fresh sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. You can also stock up on lunchtime essentials like water, soda, and chips, as well as locally grown apples and fresh juice.
The elegant Dining Room at Garland’s Oak Creek Lodge (8067 N. Hwy. 89A, 928/282-3343, $40 per person) serves up a communal culinary experience. A single prix-fixe menu is presented each night, with a changing gourmet lineup that may include coconut crabmeat chowder, rack of lamb, or grilled salmon with sweet corn and bacon relish. Guests—most of whom are staying at the lodge—share tables, creating a warm atmosphere. Cocktails are served at 6 p.m. by the fire or out on the lawn, depending on weather, and the dinner bell rings at 7 p.m. Reservations are required, and the restaurant is open early April through mid-November and closed on Sundays.
