When you’re on vacation, this is just the kind of place you want to go for breakfast. Locals have been making Coffee Pot Restaurant (2050 W. Hwy. 89A, 928/282-6626, 6 a.m.–2 p.m. daily, $4–9) a morning ritual for years, and the small breakfast joint doesn’t disappoint. You’ll find all the morning staples, like fluffy pancakes and crispy bacon, as well as 101 omelets. The fun atmosphere may be a credit to the friendly service, or it could be the mimosas and bloody marys. Try to get a table on the patio for a view of the diner’s namesake, Coffee Pot Rock. The cozy café regularly earns the distinction of “best breakfast” in local magazines.
The aliens are among us at Red Planet Diner (1655 W. Hwy. 89A, 928/282-6070, 10 a.m.–11 p.m. daily, $7–14), a kitschy little greasy spoon in West Sedona. Kids will love the 1950s-diner-meets-outer space motif, as well as the burgers, fries, and milkshakes. Adults will appreciate the full bar and filling sandwiches. Look for the UFO out front.
New Frontiers Natural Foods (1420 W. Hwy. 89A, 928/282-6311, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Sun.) is an excellent grocery store if you’d like to pick up some supplies for a picnic or if you’re planning an extended stay in Red Rock Country. They sell an impressive selection of organic produce, naturally raised meats, and fresh breads, as well as vegan products and fresh salads at the well-stocked deli.
