It seems fitting that Jackson Pollock’s old elementary school should find new life as the splashy Children’s Museum of Phoenix (215 N. 7th St., 602/253-0501, www.childrensmuseumofphoenix.org, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. daily, $9), a hands-on, 70,000-square-foot gallery dedicated to little ones 10 and under.
Would-be Picassos and Pollocks will find more than finger-paints here, though. In 2008, the historic Monroe School Building was transformed into a playground designed to “engage the minds, muscles, and imaginations of children.”
Kids can navigate through the Noodle Forest, climb up a makeshift tree house, pedal through a tricycle car wash, or simply enjoy a little reading in the comfy Book Loft. It’s a great place for exploring on a hot day.
