International travelers should expect a warm welcome to Arizona, though you will encounter some long lines and a little paperwork at immigration when entering the country. Citizens from most North American, European, and Latin American countries do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. However, all international visitors, including Canadians, are required to show a valid passport. For more information about visas and requirements to enter the United States through the Visa Waiver Program, visit the U.S. State Department’s website at www.travel.state.gov.

Travelers exchanging foreign currency can do so at small kiosks inside the airport or at most banks. ATMs (automated teller machines) offer the best exchange rates, charging a $2 fee for the convenience. Be sure to inquire with your home bank to see if they charge an exchange fee, which usually ranges 1–2 percent. You’ll find ATMs at a host of locations, including banks, shopping centers, and gas stations. Also, almost all hotels, restaurants, and stores accept travelers checks from well-known institutions like American Express and Visa.
