During its first 10 years, the New Jersey State Aquarium at Camden played perpetual second fiddle to larger, fancier facilities in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., but after a full renovation and expansion, it reopened in 2005 as the new and much-improved Adventure Aquarium.

Anchoring the steadily developing Camden waterfront, Adventure Aquarium holds over 8,000 animals in a variety of aqueous and semi-aqueous habitats. Besides the countless varieties of fish, seals and penguins are also on display.

Exhibits include the humongous Ocean Realm featuring native Atlantic fish, the Amazon-themed Irazu River Falls, the Touch-a-Shark interactive tank, the West African River Experience with huge Nile hippos and exotic river fish, and much more.

Adventure Aquarium also features a 150-seat “4D” theater that shows nature documentaries and commercial-run movies in addition to kid-friendly interactive shows.
