Who needs a $5 cup of Capogiro gelato when you can have a John’s water ice for $1? OK, both are wonderful, but just make sure you get to John’s at least once. On a hot summer day or night, there is nothing better than a cool, light water ice, and there is no place better to get one than John’s.
The corner storefront serves perfectly smooth water ice with no ice chunks and just the right amount of sweetness. There are only four regular flavors—cherry, lemon, chocolate, and pineapple—and sometimes one or two special flavors on weekends.
Vanilla, chocolate, or butter pecan ice cream can be mixed with any water ice flavor for a gelati, which is also delicious, but if you’re a water-ice virgin, stick with the straight stuff.
