Plaza Garibaldi $
Trip Ideas
935 Washington Ave., 215/922-2370
HOURS: 11 a.m.–11 p.m.
COST: Most entrées less than $10
Some of the best laid-back, authentic Mexican in Philadelphia can be found on Washington Avenue. With its colorful, cozy decor, the atmosphere at Plaza Garibaldi is nice enough to bring your own bottle and dine in, but with burritos at around $6 and only a few entrées topping $10, it is also cheap enough to order pick-up or delivery on an ordinary weeknight.
Try the moist, slightly sweet chicken mole burrito or the enchiladas suizas swimming in a tart, creamy green sauce. The nachos are a meal in and of themselves, covered with meat galore.
For a quicker, order-at-the counter burrito experience, try the fluorescent-lit Taqueria Veracruzana (908 Washington Ave.) across the street.
