Built in 1850, the building once served as the Valley Green Hotel, but the restored building on the Wissahickon Creek in Fairmount Park has since been converted into a lovely restaurant.
Brunch, lunch, and dinner are served and menus change seasonally. Offerings include classics like New Zealand rack of lamb and more modern touches like lobster spring rolls. Brunch is a very popular time to go, especially for the Brie-stuffed French toast.
While the food is very good, the real draw is the idyllic setting along the creek surrounded by towering trees. With no other houses in sight, you’ll feel like you’re visiting a remote colonial-era farmhouse.
The interior matches the feel, with period furnishing and unfinished hardwood floors. Additional seating on the wooden front porch gives you an up-close view of the creek when the weather is nice.
