Appel’s Society Hill B&B

414 Spruce St., 215/925-5460

The modern decor of the rooms at this small, four-room bed-and-breakfast is a contrast to the historic building dating from 1805. Offering an alternative to the bustle of nearby Old City and South Street with rooms and continental breakfast starting at $105 a night, this is a great deal in a pleasant area.

Appel’s Society Hill B&B often fills even though the owners do not advertise, so be sure to book in advance, especially in summertime. Each of the basic bedrooms has a private bath, telephone, and air-conditioning, and a minimum two-night stay is required. Saturday and Sunday check-in is discouraged but can be arranged for longer stays.
