The slightest hint of the area’s colonial history is present in the lobby and room furnishings ($170–190), sprucing up an otherwise-standard eight-story Holiday Inn. The hotel is comfortable and in a central location, but its greatest amenity has to be the rooftop pool that offers much-needed relief from the summer heat.

It’s a great place to stay with kids, since it’s ideally situated for touring Independence Park and taking a break with a dip in the pool.
