More than 125 years old, it features many stunning details and furnishings. Despite the stylish, bustling atmosphere, it is easy to imagine the former incarnation, especially on the 2nd floor, with its two-story arched ceilings, original woodwork, large stained-glass windows, and a step-up dining area where services were once led.

Louisiana-bred owner Marsha Brown created a sophisticated Southern fine-dining experience. Along with an ample raw bar, her New Orleans–inspired menu features upscale versions of classics like jambalaya and inventive new creations using only the best cuts of meat, fresh seafood, and vegetables. A happening downstairs bar serves a variety of cocktails.

Mother’s (34 N. Main St., New Hope, 215/862-5857, www.mothersnewhope.com, Mon.–Thurs. 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Fri. 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.–10 p.m., Sun. 10 a.m.–9 p.m.) has been a popular local spot for more than 30 years, despite several changes in ownership. The casual, affordable restaurant and bar has a friendly atmosphere and quality food, from hearty sandwiches and salads for lunch to fresh meat, fish, and pasta dinner entrées. Their excellent desserts and reasonably priced wine list are highlights, as is the bar, which offers live music on Friday nights.

Lambertville Station (11 Bridge St., Lambertville, 800/524-1091, www.lambertvillestation.com, Mon.–Thurs. 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and 4–9:30 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and 4–11 p.m., Sun. 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and 4–9:30 p.m.) occupies a restored former train station, with tracks lining one side of the restaurant. Just across the bridge from New Hope, it is a local favorite for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving excellent new American cuisine. Lunch is casual with à la carte dining that’s great for people-watching. Dinner inside offers a more upscale environment. The popular Inn at Lambertville Station is attached, with rooms decked out in antiques in themes of different cities from around the world—some offering lovely views of the river.
