Hollywood may just be rediscovering the musical, but the old razzle-dazzle never left the stage. Here in Philly, that stage belongs to the Prince Music Theater. Though founded in 1984 as the American Music Theater Festival, it was reinvented in 1999 with a new name and a new venue on Chestnut Street just off the Avenue of the Arts.
A typical season includes classics like Cole Porter, Annie Get Your Gun, and Hair, as well as new musicals by emerging artists. In addition to its regular season, the Prince hosts a cabaret series and is a venue for Philadelphia’s film festivals.
