The Painted Bride Art Center was a flower child in 1969, when it moved from South Street to Old City—long before the former warehouse neighborhood was the hot spot it is today. Stepping past the colorful mirror-and-tile mosaic exterior, you’ll enter a large gallery space showcasing the works of daring young artists.

The theater features dance, world music, performance, jazz, and more, with a focus on works that make social and political statements as well as advocacy for excluded communities. The Bride features both local faves and international stars, and is responsible for Philadelphia’s longest-running jazz series.
