The 12th Street Gym is in the heart of Philadelphia’s Gayborhood. Besides the ever-present gay population, 12th Street Gym’s clientele also has plenty of patrons from all over the city.

The facility is one the largest in the city, with a 22-station strength training circuit, cardio machines galore, a roof deck, pool, sauna, juice bar, and full-size basketball and racquetball courts. More than 60 weekly group fitness classes include the old standbys like cardio, abs, and several varieties of yoga and pilates, as well as innovative concepts like the self-explanatory Broadway Dance Workshop and Zumba Dance Fitness, a Latin dance workout.

One of the better deals among the first-rate gyms with all the bells and whistles, there is a $99 start-up fee to join, but then you can pay $49 a month for a 12-month commitment or $59 a month for a month-to-month pass. A one-day pass costs $20, or you can stay and use the gym for free after a tour if you’re considering joining.

Many members also frequent the Soleil Tanning Center next door; it’s owned by the gym but you don’t have to be a gym member to use it.
