The Odunde Street Festival takes place the second weekend in June in one of Philadelphia’s oldest, historically African American neighborhoods just south of Center City. In existence for more than 30 years, it has become a three-day event filled with festivities and cultural events, culminating with a large street festival on Sunday.

The festival day kicks off with a procession to the nearby Schuylkill River for prayers and blessings and returns to 23rd and South Streets for traditional African music, food, and crafts. Around the same time, mid-June, there are often other events throughout the city in honor of Juneteenth, the holiday which celebrates the official end to slavery.
