Cooperativa Artesanal Don Bosco
Catholic priest Ugo de Censi began this nonprofit organization (Catholic Parish in Jangus, tel. 043/44-5061, andesdbosco [at] hotmail [dot] com, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Mon.–Fri.) in 1970 as a way to give people working skills and an escape from poverty. The organization has blossomed from its roots in Chacas, a small town on the other side of the Cordillera Blanca, into a large workshop in Jangus, just north of Huaraz.
Here, teenagers learn how to make contemporary furniture, ceramics, blown glass, weavings, and stone sculptures, which are then shipped throughout the world! Visitors tour through all the workshops and have a chance to see an interesting video.
