Jobs teaching English in Peru are easy to find and can often be arranged in-country without a work visa (which doesn’t mean you will be legal). You should first scan expatriate bulletin boards in Lima, where language schools often advertise jobs for around US$8 per hour. One of Lima’s better language schools is El Sol (http://elsol.idiomasperu.com).

International organizations that help find teaching positions include Amerispan (www.amerispan.com) and TEFL (www.tefl.com). These organizations are also worth contacting: International Schools Services (U.S. tel. 609/452-0990, www.iss.edu), Británico (Lima tel. 01/447-1192, www.britanico.edu.pe), American Language Institute (alisac [at] terra [dot] com [dot] pe, contact Joseph Phrower in Lima), Teaching Abroad in the U.K. (www.teaching-abroad.co.uk), or EFL (efl.institute [at] terra [dot] com [dot] pe) in Lima. Wherever you work, make sure you get a contract in writing.

Other paid employment can be found through the International Jobs Center (www.internationaljobs.org). This organization collects information on current international job openings with governments, government contractors, United Nations agencies, private voluntary organizations, and student exchange organizations. Membership, including posting your credentials in its database and access to profiles of major employers, is US$26 for six weeks.
