Whether or not to give money to those asking for it on the street is a personal decision. The hardest to turn down are the street kids with rosy, dirt-covered cheeks and an outstretched hand. In the countryside, children will frequently ask for money in exchange for having their picture taken. Remember that when you give them money, you are encouraging the practice in the future. Also, know that parents often have their children working as teams to collect money in the street. Instead of money, the best-prepared travelers give pens, notebooks, or other useful items.
