If shooting fish in a barrel sounds too challenging, Truchas de Bambito (north of Volcán, tel. 771-4373 or 771-4374, www.hotelbambito.com, 7 A.M.–4 P.M. daily) is for you. This is the Hotel Bambito’s trout farm (trucha is Spanish for trout). Tons of the big guys swim about in a series of concrete tanks, and you’re welcome to fish one out or ask the workers to catch one for you.
Note: Catch and release is not allowed.
Getting to Truchas de Bambito
The trout farm is on the left 0.4 kilometer past Hotel Bambito as you head uphill. Rent a fishing pole for US$5 an hour, or use your own for US$2.50 an hour. Then you have to pay for what you catch, at US$2.60 a pound. The place is open 7 a.m.–4 p.m. daily.
