Those who want to get a closer look at some of the crops the rich volcanic soil and mild weather of this region produce may be interested in paying a quick visit to the flower and strawberry farms. They’re more photogenic and interesting than you might think.
Several of them are located along the road that links Guadalupe and the turnoff to Parque Internacional La Amistad. There’s no need to make an appointment. Just stop by during regular business hours and ask if you can poke around. They might think you’re a little strange, but they’ll probably let you.
Haras Cerro Punta (tel. 227-3371, www.harascerropunta.com) breeds some of Panama’s best racehorses in one of Panama’s prettiest spots. The haras (stud farm) comprises wide-open pasture land ringed by mountains. Visitors are welcome to tour the farm with advance notice. The main entrance is just before Guadalupe on the Cerro Punta–Guadalupe road.
