The U.S. carriers that fly into Panama City also fly into Mexico City, but that doesn’t mean they fly between Panama City and Mexico City. At least, not directly: American’s Mexico-Panama flights require a circuitous stop in Miami or Dallas, for instance. It makes more sense to fly with the Latin American carriers. Expect to pay US$400–600 round-trip; nonstops are more expensive.
Copa (www.copaair.com) offers two daily nonstops between Panama City and Mexico City, as well as 10 weekly nonstops to and from Cancún, and five weekly nonstops to and from Guadalajara.
Copa also has a code share agreement with Aeroméxico (www.aeromexico.com).
Mexicana (www.mexicana.com) has two daily flights to and from Mexico City.
The airlines of Grupo TACA (www.taca.com) also fly out of Mexico City, usually with at least one Central American stop en route.
