Offering 35 beds and family rooms, the Ashland Hostel (150 N. Main St., 541/482-9217, www.theashlandhostel.com, $28 pp dorm bed, $59 d private room) is a two-story 1902 house near the Pacific Crest Trail, only three blocks from the Elizabethan Theater and Lithia Park and two blocks from the Greyhound station. Reservations are essential, especially March–October. The hostel has a coin-op laundry.
The Ashland Motel (1145 Siskiyou Blvd., 541/482-2561 or 800/460-8858, www.ashlandmotel.com, $65 and up) offers good value and clean, basic guest rooms. All rooms have fridges and microwaves; there are two 2-bedroom units, and you can relax in the outdoor pool.
Moderately priced guest rooms are available from Cedarwood Inn (1801 Siskiyou Blvd., 541/488-2000 or 800/547-4141, www.ashlandcedarwoodinn.com, $88 and up), with a pool and continental breakfast.
Newly remodeled, Village Suites at Ashland Hills (2525 Ashland St., 541/482-8310 or 800/547-4747, www.windmillinns.com, $89 and up) offers suite-style guest rooms at a great price.
A dollar-wise choice in this high-priced town is the Columbia Hotel (2621/2 E. Main St., 541/482-3726 or 800/718-2530, www.columbiahotel.com, $89 and up), in the center of town. This well-kept 1910 hotel with a grand piano in the lobby has 24 rooms. Most rooms share bathrooms.
Rooms at a sister property, The Palm (1065 Siskiyou Blvd., 877/482-2635, www.palmcottages.com, $73 and up), are in a well-maintained cottage-style motel in the midst of lovely gardens.
