The 20,000-square-foot World Forestry Center Discovery Museum (4033 SW Canyon Rd., 503/228-1367, www.worldforestry.org, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, $8 adults, $7 seniors, $5 children 3–18), near the Oregon Zoo in Washington Park, offers hands-on interactive exhibits that teach about trees of the world and the sustainability of forests.

There are two floors of exhibits, with the first focusing on the forests of the Pacific Northwest and the impact of forestry choices on the environment. The second floor exhibits focus on other forested regions of the world as well as the natural and human history of ecosystems in Siberia, the Amazon, China, and South Africa.

The kids will love the “Take Me to the Top Canopy Lift” (additional $4 fee), which elevates visitors to a canopy bridge at the top of the museum where they can view the animals that make their homes at the tops of trees.
