Specializing in vegetarian and vegan-friendly food, Chaos Café (2620 SE Powell Blvd., 503/546-8112, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 8 a.m.–10 p.m. Fri.–Sat., $6–14) offers a range of food that includes all-day breakfasts, wraps, bowls, salads, and sandwiches. At night, check the chalkboard for the evening’s dinner specials. Adjacent is The Parlor, with live music and performance several nights each week.
The swell little restaurant Farm Café (10 SE 7th Ave., 503/736-3276, www.thefarmcafe.com, 5 p.m.–midnight daily, $14–20) is right on busy East Burnside Street, but the atmosphere is Victorian boudoir and the food is very well-prepared vegetarian and several local fish options. As the name suggests, the Farm Café works closely with local farmers to ensure that the menu presents the best and freshest of local vegetables, fruit, and other produce. The restaurant is in a restored century-old house with a charming atmosphere.
