A well-stocked wine bar just above the RiverPlace marina on the Willamette River, Thirst Wine Bar and Bistro (315 SW Montgomery St., 503/295-2747, www.thirstwinebar.com, 3–10 p.m. Sun. and Tues.–Thurs., 3–11 p.m. Fri.–Sat., $5–18) is instantly likeable for that alone, but the stellar location is matched by the quality of the food and the excellent wine selection.
Thirst does its best to wed its wines to the food, with well-priced selections of local charcuterie and cheese and a three-course tasting menu of appetizers chosen to accompany your wine or wine flight. Several larger plates are also available, ranging from duck confit to a delicious burger.
The wine selection is likewise impressive, with a focus on small and hard-to-find Northwest vintages. Over 30 wines are available by the glass, with another 60 available by the bottle.
On a summer evening, sitting outdoors above the marina, this is a great spot to make memories of Portland.
