Two B&Bs are located in the leafy old neighborhood near the historic center. The Inn at the Gorge (1113 Eugene St., 541/386-4429, www.innatthegorge.com, $119 and up) is a nicely refurbished 1908 Victorian that offers the informality of a sailboarder hangout but in a classy B&B. Three of the five guest rooms are suites, very large rooms with full kitchens. All rooms have private baths.

Sailboarder-friendly, the Gorgeview Bed and Breakfast (1009 Columbia St., 541/386-5770, www.gorgeview.com, May–Oct., $95 and up) is located in a historic house with a great porch view and a hot tub. You’ll have a choice of regular private rooms or hostel-style bunk rooms ($39 pp).

Up at Parkdale, near Mount Hood, the Old Parkdale Inn (4932 Baseline Rd., Parkdale, 541/352-5551, www.hoodriverlodging.com, $132 and up) has three rooms, two of which are spacious suites. All have private baths, TVs, VCRs, microwaves, coffeemakers, and refrigerators. The breakfast is gourmet quality and the peaceful village will satisfy those looking for an escape from the rat race. The gardens, full kitchens, mountain views, and rural setting will get you in relaxation mode.

The Mount Hood Hamlet Bed & Breakfast (6741 Rte. 35, 541/352-3574 or 800/407-0570, www.mthoodhamlet.com, $145 and up) is a purpose-built B&B with the look of a historic home. The large and nicely decorated rooms have all the features you’d expect at an upscale hotel, but with fantastic views of Mount Hood and full breakfasts. The B&B is south of Hood River off Route 35, near the little village of Mount Hood.
