Drop by Jackson’s Corner (845 NW Delaware Ave., 541/647-2198, 7 a.m.–9 p.m. daily, $5–12) almost any time of day for a casual meal. The pizzas are excellent, as are the sandwiches and the salads. It’s a casual neighborhood place where you order at the counter and may possibly share a big table with others. The side yard has a place for kids to play and adults to lounge at picnic tables.

Budget gourmets, including many construction workers who keep busy building the new Bend, hit Longboard Louie’s (1254 NW Galveston Ave., 541/383-2449, 7 a.m.–close Mon.–Fri., 8 a.m.–close Sat.–Sun., $4–8), where the seafood tacos are excellent (get the halibut if it’s in season) and the ambiance is easygoing. Sit out on the deck in nice weather.

Vegetarians should head to the Old Mill shopping center to find Cafe Yumm (325 SW Powerhouse Dr., 541/318-9866, 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Fri.–Sat., 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Sun., $6–8), the Bend outlet of a small Oregon chain specializing in rice bowls and wraps. Although many dishes are vegan, Yumm also serves chicken bento, turkey Reubens, and salmon burgers.
