Yachats (pronounced YAH-hots) is derived from an Alsea word meaning “dark waters at the foot of the mountain.” The phrase aptly describes the location of this picturesque resort village of 675 people, clustered on the hillsides and coastal shelf beside the Yachats River mouth in the shadow of Cape Perpetua.
Word of mouth has helped to spread the popularity of Yachats as a place for a quiet getaway and a base for enjoying the 2,700-acre Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and nearby beaches.
