This spectacular dunes landscape can be found 10.5 miles south of Reedsport, 0.25 miles south of the Eel Creek Campground near Lakeside. After you emerge from a 0.5-mile hike through coastal evergreen forest, you’ll be greeted by dunes 300–400 feet high. It’s said that dunes near here can approach 500 feet high and one mile long after a windblown buildup.
The trail, marked by blue-banded wooden posts, continues another 2.5 miles to the beach. Dune hiking can be a bit disorienting. If you lose the trail, climb to the top of the tallest dune and scan for the trail markers.
A shorter and easier one-mile loop trail leads through woodlands to the dunes for a quick introduction to this landscape.
