If coastal restaurants are eating a hole in your wallet, there’s always tried-and-true Mo’s (860 SW 51st St., 541/996-2535, 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Fri., 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Sat., 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Sun., $4–16). As at all Mo’s locations, the view is great and the food serviceable.

The chowder is a little tastier at the Dory Cove Restaurant (2981 SW U.S. 101, 541/557-4000, 11:30 a.m.–8 p.m. Sun.–Thurs., 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m. Fri.–Sat., $5–23), but the views from this simple restaurant are out onto the highway. Rest assured that the focus is on the food—good old-fashioned deep-fried and sautéed seafood main courses (halibut fish-and-chips are recommended) and homemade pies.

Kyllo’s (1110 NW 1st Court, 541/994-3179, 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m. Sun.–Thurs., 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Fri.–Sat., dinner $16–28) specializes in broiled, sautéed, and baked seafood, plus excellent homemade desserts and Oregon microbrews and wines. The restaurant is visible from U.S. 101 as you drive by the D River Wayside. With views of the water on all sides, this restaurant is a good place to linger, though waits can be long in the evening as no reservations are taken.
