The Ester Lee (3803 SW U.S. 101, 541/996-3606 or 888/996-3606, www.esterlee.com, $91 and up) is a decades-old family motel complex, with some cottages on a bluff above miles of beachfront. All rooms have ocean views and fireplaces; some have kitchens and hot tubs. Pets are allowed in some of the cottage units, most of which have kitchens and fireplaces. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s just fine and a good value.

If you don’t mind a room that looks onto a parking lot rather than the ocean, high-season rooms can be found for less than $100 at the Sea Gypsy Motel (145 NW Inlet Ave., 541/994-2552 or 800/341-2142, www.theseagypsymotel.com) and the Surftides Inn (2945 NW Jetty Ave., 541/994-2191 or 800/452-2159, www.surftidesinn.com).

And weeknight travelers might want to consider staying at the Chinook Winds Casino (1777 NW 44th St., 888/244-6665, www.chinookwindscasino.com, $79 and up), where ocean-view rooms go for about $80 Sunday–Thursday nights.
