Sunsets and Happy Hours

Many bars have sunset happy hours, but not all of them have good sunset views. Since the Oaxaca coast faces south (and the sun sets in the west), bars and restaurants along west-facing Playa Zicatela, such as Hotel Santa Fe, Hotel Arco Iris, Sakura, and Restaurant Cafecito, are the only ones that can offer unobstructed sunset horizons.
If, on the other hand, you prefer solitude, stroll the bayfront andador (walkway) that begins on the Playa Principal, west side, on the rocks by the Capitán del Puerto office. It leads west, past a succession of breezy sunset viewpoints above the waves, about a half mile, to steps that continue uphill to city streets near the lighthouse.
