This grassy palm- and palapa-shaded balneario (Carretera 200, Km 107, local cell tel. 044-954/559-2430, 8:30 a.m.–7 p.m. daily) provides a relaxing food and lodging option not far from Lagunas de Chacahua only a few miles east of Río Grande. For about $5 entrance per person, families can stay the whole day, enjoying a big blue pool, kiddie pool, playground equipment, and plenty of shady room to run around within a fenced garden park.
The restaurant serves from a long, very recognizable menu, with lots of breakfast ($3–5) and seafood ($7–10) selections. The several newish hotel rooms ($30 d with fan, $35 d with a/c), located in a row along the quiet side, away from the highway, are modern, simply decorated, and clean and comfortable, all with private hot-water shower-baths. If you’re arriving on a weekend or holiday, best reserve a few days ahead of time.
