Oaxaca City offers a wide range of good lodgings. Air-conditioning is not particularly necessary in temperate Oaxaca City, although hot-water showers (furnished by all lodgings listed here) feel especially comfy during cool winter mornings and evenings.

Many of the less expensive hotels, which generally do not accept credit cards, are within easy walking distance of the colorful, traffic-free zócalo. With but a few exceptions, Oaxaca’s plush, resort-style hostelries dot the northern foothill edge of town.

During holidays and festivals (Easter week, July, August, late October–early November, December 15–January 6), many Oaxaca hotels raise their prices 20–50 percent above the rates given here.

Many of the following lodgings and many more are advertised on websites, notably www.mexonline.com and others listed under Internet Resources.

All hotels below are positive recommendations, grouped by location in relation to the zócalo and price quotes are for double-occupancy rates. For other lodging options, see the B&Bs; Apartments; Hostels; and Trailer Parks and Camping sections.
